Who Are We – Trinity United Church Gravenhurst
At Trinity United Church Gravenhurst, we are a compassionate, inclusive, and joyful faith community rooted in love, justice, and belonging. As an Affirming Church, we welcome and celebrate the full participation of the 2SLGBTQ+ community in every aspect of church life. Whoever you are, and wherever you are on your journey, you have a place here.
We believe that faith is lived out in community, and we strive to make our hearts, our congregation, and our wider community places of sanctuary and peace. In that spirit, we affirm and embrace people of all ages, races, cultures, abilities, income levels, family configurations, genders, gender identities, and sexual orientations.
We are also deeply committed to outreach and social justice. Trinity is proud to be the home of Gravenhurst Against Poverty (G.A.P.), and we support a variety of organizations working to build a more compassionate and equitable world.
At Trinity, everyone is encouraged and welcomed to participate fully in church life—including membership, leadership, and the sacred milestones of baptism and marriage. Come as you are. You are loved, you are valued, and you belong.
What we believe:
What We Believe – Trinity United Church Gravenhurst
At Trinity United Church Gravenhurst, we are a Christian community grounded in the radical love and inclusive teachings of Jesus. His life, message, and ministry call us to compassion, justice, and a deep commitment to loving one another — without exception.
We believe that faith is a journey, not a destination. We walk alongside people wherever they are on that journey — in moments of certainty, doubt, discovery, or questioning. We understand that everyone’s path is unique, and we welcome a diversity of beliefs and experiences, trusting that God's Spirit is present in the seeking as well as the knowing.
Rooted in the progressive tradition of the United Church of Canada, our theology is open, evolving, and engaged with the world around us. We are not afraid to ask big questions, wrestle with difficult truths, or explore new ways of understanding scripture and faith.
We believe that love is at the heart of all things — love for God, love for neighbour, love for self, and love for the earth. It’s this love that guides our actions, shapes our worship, and inspires us to work for a more just and compassionate world.
At Trinity, we don’t all believe exactly the same things — and that’s okay. What unites us is our commitment to walk together in faith, to support and care for one another, and to follow the way of Jesus in how we live, serve, and love.
Our History – Trinity United Church Gravenhurst
Trinity United Church dates back to the original Methodist Church constructed on this site in 1877. A small addition was built on the east end in 1887, and the church remained this size until it was destroyed by a fire in 1926,
Trinity officially became part of the United Church of Canada at its founding in 1925, uniting Methodist, Congregationalist, and some Presbyterian traditions into one national denomination.
In 1959 the church expanded with an addition that provided a boiler room and Sunday School rooms. Today the lower-level houses Gravenhurst Against Poverty (GAP.)
Over the decades, Trinity has been more than just a church building — it has been a place of welcome, healing, and belonging. We’ve marked life’s milestones here: baptisms, weddings, memorials, and celebrations. We’ve opened our doors to community groups, supported local and global causes, and stood up for justice and inclusion.
Today, Trinity United Church remains a vibrant and progressive faith community — honouring our past, living fully in the present, and walking hopefully into the future. Our history is still being written, and we invite you to be a part of it.
